Start the brake caliper service and repair operation by taking out the disc brake caliper and cleaning all brake fluid from the system. A technician should apply low air pressure to the fluid port of the caliper that has a block of wood inserted between the caliper bridge and caliper piston assembly to push out the pistons. After ejection of pistons from the caliper remove both the block wood and pistons. The entire set of piston seals together with boots and bleed screw and cap needs discarding. Check the caliper pistons and caliper unit for contamination and perform inspections to eliminate all present debris. Check the pistons for any surface damage and perform a scoring examination and wear assessment when needed to use new replacements. Remove all residue from the caliper bores by using Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or an equivalent brake cleaner that complies with Ford specifications. Clean High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB which conforms to Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A should be used to lubricate caliper pistons before assembly. The assembly process requires insertion of the piston seal and boot onto the caliper piston without damaging or dislodging the seal. Use the bore to insert the caliper piston without cocking the piece before pushing it into position. The process ends with installation of the disc brake caliper after replacing the bleed screw and cap.
