How to service the water thermostat on 2001 Ford Ranger?

In order to service the water thermostat, drain the cooling system and disconnect the heater return hose, engine coolant temperature sensor and the upper radiator hose. Take out the thermostat and put the new thermostat, re-attach all parts and see that all are aligned. Lastly, reload the cooling system.
