2001 Ford Taurus Throttle Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle cable and linkage on 2001 Ford Taurus?
A: Repair work on throttle cable and linkage starts by disconnecting the accelerator cable from the pedal while placing the pedal into its relaxed position to free up tension on the cable. The cable can be disconnected from the accelerator pedal by pressing down tabs on its retaining pin. The first step consists of removing the accelerator cable splash shield using the necessary steps of retaining pin removal before handling the splash shield itself. The throttle cam must first be set to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) position then the accelerator cable slug needs removal from the throttle cam before disconnection can proceed. The tabs on the accelerator cable enable detachment from the bracket and solo removal of both the grommet and cable from bulkhead location. The completion of the repair requires following the opposite order in which removal was conducted.
