2001 Lincoln Continental Heater Core Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the heater core on 2001 Lincoln Continental?
A: Service and maintenance of the heater core begins with instrument panel removal. The heating process starts by draining radiator coolant until the heater core stays below the liquid level. Start by unscrewing the electricity connection of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) through the disconnecting electrical connector while you also remove the heater water hoses from the heater core. First remove the metal cover by undoing its screws before disconnecting the wire harness connector of the A/C electronic blend door actuator and unfastening its screws. Next proceed to remove the A/C air intake damper assist spring after which operate the locking ramp to extract the A/C damper door shaft off from the air temperature control door shaft but ensure no bending damage to the fragile A/C damper door shaft. Use caution by avoiding bending of the brittle lever when removing the A/C evaporator case outlet door shaft. First remove screws from the heater core cover and subsequently extract the heater core cover seal until the heater core comes out. To install replace the components in the opposite order of removal while lubricating the coolant hoses with Merpol(R) ESE-M99B144-B certified solution or using plain water as an alternative during installation.
