2001 Mercury Cougar Seat Switch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power seat switch on 2001 Mercury Cougar?
A: Begin service or repairs of the power seat switch by letting the battery cables disconnect for one minute before unconnecting any electronic air bag control module or supplemental restraint electrical connectors to stop accidental air bag deployment. Start the service by eliminating the front seat assembly and clearing the outer seat base cover through retaining screw removal and by unfastening the retaining clip above the center retaining screw alongside the front retaining clip. The wiring harness located under the seat needs to be detached before the electrical connector can be unplugged. You must first remove the power seat control switch through a trimeration process to detach the knobs while extracting the two screws mounted on the seat base cover back panel. The installation process should be the reverse of this removal procedure.
