2001 Mercury Grand Marquis Throttle Body Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: Service and repair of the throttle body requires starting by removing the air cleaner outlet tube before other steps. Service technicians need to disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector then remove the accelerator cable followed by the speed control actuator cable and finally disconnect the throttle return spring. To access the throttle body you should remove its four bolts while discarding the Throttle Body gasket. During installation thread in a new TB gasket followed by reinstallation of the throttle body while tightening the bolts until they reach 9 Nm (80 Lb-In) torque before performing another additional 90-degree rotation. Connect the throttle return spring followed by the accelerator cable then the speed control actuator cable together with the TP sensor electrical connectors. Install the air cleaner outlet tube as the last step. Take caution during installation of the throttle body bore because the plate surface has a special coating that cannot be cleaned while avoiding exposure to smoke and open flames around all fuel components to prevent accidents.
