2001 Mercury Sable Heater Core Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the heater core with manual climate control on 2001 Mercury Sable?
A: You should start heater core repair with manual climate control by taking out the dashboard and right-side cowl vent screen. Begin by removing the screws followed by the water shield from the vehicle. The suitable hose pinching pliers should be used to clamp and disconnect heater hoses. Start by removing the screws after removing the shield then disconnect the electrical connector of the temperature blend door actuator and unfasten it with its screws. Unscrew and detach the temperature blend door assist spring and supplemental temperature blend lever shaft by pressing and removing the tab from the supplemental blend door before rotating and removing the supplemental blend door pivot shaft from the metal link to avoid bending any part of the lever. First remove the metal link from the temperature blend door pivot shaft before removing the heater core cover by unscrewing its screws while rotating the pivot shaft to take out the cover together with its seal. Last finish the heater core removal by turning the blend door pivot shaft until the core becomes reachable for extraction. The installation process requires reversing the disassembly instructions while treating the coolant hoses with coolant hose lubricant or plain water until refilling completes the cooling system.
