2002 Ford E-150 Econoline A/C Accumulator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the A/C Accumulator on 2002 Ford E-150 Econoline?
A: Begin the servicing process by recovering all refrigerant from the HVAC accumulator. A new suction accumulator/drier must replace an existing unit only in case that system contamination appears from a failed A/C compressor or from accumulator/drier damage. As the next step you should remove the battery tray and the battery through screw removal. Pursue disconnecting both evaporator discharge and compressor suction lines with wrenches used at both ends of each fitting to prevent damage. First disconnect the electrical connector of the A/C cycling switch and afterwards remove the suction accumulator/drier by unscrewing it. The procedure needs a step that includes removing the A/C cycling switch. Follow installation steps by giving the new suction accumulator/drier the correct PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil amount (R-134a Systems) F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent oil Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B. Remember to apply the same PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil for lubricating the new O-ring seals of the A/C cycling switch. Accumulate and install the suction accumulator/drier by utilizing screws for fixation. The A/C cycling switch electrical connector and evaporator discharge line should be reconnected while applying PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil to both new O-ring seals before their installation. Apply a wrench to both sides of the fitting to avoid causing any harm. The suction line of the compressor requires connection after applying PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil to new O-ring seals and tightening with a screw using a wrench for each fitting. To complete the repair process reinstall the battery tray along with the battery then perform an evacuation of air conditioning system fluid followed by charging the system.
