2002 Ford Explorer Brake Pedal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the adjustable brake pedal assembly on 2002 Ford Explorer?
A: Start adjustable brake pedal servicing by disconnecting the power cable of the battery. Gather the needle-shaped retaining pin and remove both stoplight switch and push rod of the booster from the brake pedal pin. Service procedures should only begin when the brake pedal maintains identical position to the accelerator pedal which must be located either at full forward extent or full rearward extent. The service procedure starts with removing the brake pedal-to-accelerator pedal cable retainer while pulling it away from the assembly then disconnecting the brake pedal motor electrical port. To remove the brake pedal with its bracket apply clockwise torque to the upper left-hand nut first before removing all retaining bolts and nuts. Position the brake booster assembly to the side of its installation position for clearing access to the brake pedal and bracket. Reinstall the brake pedal and accelerator pedal with the exact same positioning in the completely rearward position before performing installation backwards.
