2003 Ford Explorer Brake Pedal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake pedal assembly on 2003 Ford Explorer?
A: Service and repair of the brake pedal assembly requires disconnecting the battery ground cable as the starting point. You should start by elevating wiper arms vertically before pulling out on retainers to free them. The cowl grille features 14 spring clips to secure it in place so you should pry it upward to free those fasteners properly. You need to take off the instrument panel support bolt before removing the front console and finishing with the four screws from the instrument panel support bracket. Starting from the door scuff plates, follow with the retainer and cowl panels then finish by removing the panels and caps together with the assist handles and moldings and defroster grille. The instrument panel support bolts need removal together with the finish panel screws. First disconnect the wiring harness connector and maintain the steering wheel position by securing it because any steering wheel movement exposes the Clock Spring to harm during intermediate shaft removal. The Clock Spring needs removal and realignment when steering column shaft rotation occurs. First remove the bolt to split the steering shafts then uninstall the instrument panel support bolts while pulling the instrument panel about one inch from the dash panel. Regular installation requires performing the opposite steps of uninstallation.
