2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc for Different Types on 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Aircraft maintenance of the brake rotor/disc requires beginning your work by removing the front disc brake caliper anchor plate for all vehicles. Before taking away the brake disc from 4x4 vehicles you must perform match-marking on both the brake disc and hub. Utilize a hub-mount brake lathe to fix brake disc when necessary followed by measurement to determine correct resurfacing methods or move to a replacement of the disc when it cannot be repaired. Apart from 4x4 vehicles, match-mark both brake disc and hub components before proceeding to remove the hub grease cap, cotter pin, nut retainer, spindle nut, front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and outer front wheel bearing to remove brake disc and hub elements. Begin by removing both the wheel hub grease seal along with the wheel bearing from the setup. A hub-mount brake lathe should be used to machine the brake disc when needed while performing necessary measurements for resurfacing and replacing the brake disc when it exceeds specifications. The brake disc needs to be installed over the wheel hub while employing Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F6AZ-2C410-AB or equivalent for brake disc cleaning before using matching marks for hub installation. The hub installation area requires application of equivalent High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant F6AZ-9L494-AA to stop corrosion from occurring. Before installation of new front wheel bearings on 4x2 vehicles operators must use Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F6AZ-2C410-AB or equivalent to clean both front wheel bearings and the brake disc and hub. Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or equivalent must be used to lubricate front wheel bearings. You should install two more new wheel hub grease seals and place the inner front wheel bearing in between them. Set the brake disc alongside the hub before adding the outer front wheel bearing along with the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and spindle nut. Tighten the spindle nut through brake disc and hub rotation and you should loosen and retighten it after performing additional rotations. The last steps include putting on the nut retainer then the cotter pin followed by the hub grease cap and front disc brake caliper anchor plate installation for all motor vehicles.
