2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Service of the intake manifold requires you to first disconnect the battery ground cable. First detach the shielding while unwiring the air cleaner outlet pipe then take out its tube alongside the Mass Airflow (MAP) sensor wiring pushpin. You should free the clamps to extract the pipe. The service process of the intake manifold begins with disconnecting electrical connectors from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and disconnecting the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve vacuum hose. Detach the accelerator and speed control cables from the throttle body and the bracket while placing them to the side. The user should loosen the fitting to disconnect the exhaust manifold-to-EGR valve tube followed by removing the EGR valve vacuum regulator electrical connector while disconnecting the vacuum hoses. To perform the brake booster vacuum hose disconnect you should both separate the hose from the fitting and release the clamp. One must exercise caution while removing the right-hand spark plug wires from the coil due to potential damage. The wire boots should be twisted before pulling them upward and marking their positions in advance will help. Gently uninstall the spark plug wire routing clip pushpin until the wires are accessible enough to put aside. The maintenance process begins with removing the wiring harness bracket retainer before setting the wiring harness aside and then proceeding with the accelerator cable routing clip pushpin followed by the wiring harness pushpin. Perform bolt removal to detach both the coil as well as the bracket alongside vacuum hose disconnect. The technician disconnects the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) electrical connector while removing the nut before detaching all ground wires and setting the wiring harness to the side. Beginning with the electrical connector retainer detachment the technician can remove the intake manifold bolts until the intake manifold becomes liftable. Finish the intake manifold removal by detaching the heated PCV hose retainers together with the heated PCV fitting. Install the device following the same reverse steps used for uninstallation.
