How to service and repair the water pump on 2002 Ford Explorer Sport?

To service the water pump, drain off the engine cooling system, disassemble the accessory drive belt and idler pulley, disconnect the heater, the lower radiator hoses, the water pump pulley and pump. Wipe the sealing surfaces then follow the steps of removal in the reverse order to install.
