2002 Ford Thunderbird Water Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the auxiliary water pump on 2002 Ford Thunderbird?
A: A service or repair of the auxiliary water pump must start with draining the engine coolant. The next step involves removing the engine air cleaner outlet tube while freeing its clamp to disconnect the upper radiator hose. Start by removing the bolt which enables the receiver/drier positioning then detach the auxiliary coolant flow pump by disconnecting its electrical connector followed by bolt removal. First lift the vehicle and next remove the clamp attached to the heater hose at the dual coolant flow valve before lowering the vehicle down. Unfasten the clamp for a second time to detach the heater hose before removing the auxiliary coolant flow pump which stays connected to its hoses. Transfer the heater hoses from the old to new auxiliary coolant flow pump unit while also cleaning and lubricating all hoses by using coolant hose lubricant or plain water. Reapprove the procedure by cleaning and lubing the cooling system hoses before filling the engine with required coolant.
