How to service and repair the rear parking brake cable and conduit on 2002 Ford Windstar?

The first step to repair the rear parking brake cable and conduit involves removing the bottom portion of the boot which dislodges it from the plastic retainer. The control handle will need upward pulling if required. Caution is needed during boot control because a small plastic retaining tab connects to a notch on the control handle but any damage to this tab will likely force a new boot purchase. A small screwdriver will lift the retainer tab while your slide the boot upward. A screwdriver should be used to push down the tension arm until it reaches its fullest depth before applying a pin or screwdriver for locking it in position. Unbolt the cable anchor pin while lifting the vehicle into position with support. The rear parking brake cables need to be removed from the equalizer while observing the spring tabs which secure them to the body structure. First detach the rear cable and conduit from body and holder before breaking away the brake drum. The parking brake cable must be separated from the parking brake lever before spring tabs can be compressed so the parking brake cable with conduit can be safely extracted. Follow the reverse order of removal by firmly attaching retainers and positioning cables correctly.
