2002 Ford Windstar Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2002 Ford Windstar?
A: Before servicing or repairing the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator always deplete back up power to stop accidental air bag system activation. Users should disconnect the battery ground cable and let it wait for one minute before disconnecting auxiliary batteries and power supplies from vehicles with these systems. Start by taking off the two screws which hold the instrument panel lower steering column opening cover. Then disconnect the LH instrument panel finish panel from the instrument panel before removing the RH instrument panel finish panel damage free. The next step requires removing screws that connect both the instrument panel opening cover reinforcement and steering column opening brace. You can place the selector lever indicator cable away by turning its screw loose and disconnecting the cable. You can lower the steering column once you detach the four nuts and bracket. Follow by unfastening the shift lock actuator along with the transmission shift selector position insert by removing bolts and dissociating the steering column and disconnecting the electrical connector. The final step of installation requires performing the opposite steps used during removal.
