2002 Lincoln Continental Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2002 Lincoln Continental?
A: The service procedure for a thermostat requires users to wait for engine coolant temperature to decrease and to protect against burns when removing the pressure cap by wrapping the cap with a dense piece of fabric before unscrewing it with slow rotation while maintaining distance. Service technicians must first raise the vehicle through a hoist method while they take off the lower radiator air deflector. First drain the engine cooling system partially before setting aside the hose clamp and unhooking the lower radiator hose from the water inlet connection followed by removing the hose from the water inlet connection. The inlet connection removal begins with undescrewing its two bolts followed by extracting both the connection components and the inlet components. Remove the O-ring seal and the wafer thermostat along with an inspection of the O-ring seal for deterioration that will require replacement if needed. The installation will be finished by performing the steps in reverse order to those used during removal.
