2002 Mercury Cougar Antenna Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Antenna Cable for Upper on 2002 Mercury Cougar?
A: Start antenna cable servicing by unfastening the overhead console, message center, antenna cable retaining screw and antenna base and gasket from the roof. The service begins with removing the roof base and gasket along with disassembling the right-hand sun visor and its clip through the locking pin release. Remove the right-hand A-pillar trim panel together with the scuff panel trim while lowering the right-hand side of the headliner with caution. Unplug the antenna cable from both the retaining clip and the two clips mounted on the A-pillars. During the process remove the right-hand side cowl trim panel for vehicles with left-hand drive and disconnect the liftgate release switch electrical connector and right-hand cowl side trim panel for vehicles with right-hand drive before proceeding with the cowl side trim panel removal. The antenna cable electrical connector needs disconnection before removing the antenna cable from the wiring harness by unclipping its retaining clip. Left-hand drive antenna cables must be detached from their retaining clip right after moving the sound deadening panel. Unplug and remove the antenna cable while making space available through the glove box opening. Right-hand drive vehicle owners should first disconnect the instrument panel lower panel before separating the wiring harness clip from the relay mounting bracket and finally removing relays and electrical connectors attached to the bracket. The right-hand side vent pipe and relay mounting bracket need two bolt removal to be detached before placing the bracket on the side. End the process by disconnecting the antenna cable from the retaining clip following sound deadening panel realignment then pull the antenna cable. The installation process will duplicate the steps for removal.
