All vehicles need to start rear parking brake cable service and repair by taking out the rear drum brake shoes first. When repairing the ABS-equipped vehicle take off the bolt that holds the ABS cable bracket. The first step involves removing both rear parking brake cable to trailing arm bracket bolts then disconnecting the rear parking brake cable from the backing plates. Before moving on to the next step the technician should start by taking out rear parking brake cable bracket bolts and then the right-hand (RH) side rear parking brake cable. The RH side rear parking brake cable needs removing from both the front parking brake cable and the body-mounted parking brake cable support bracket. You must detach the left-hand (LH) rear parking brake cable from both the fuel tank support strap and front parking brake cable before completely removing the LH rear parking brake cable by removing its two retaining bolts and disconnection from the body-mounted parking brake cable support bracket. The installation process requires following the backward steps used during removal.
