2003 Ford Excursion Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2003 Ford Excursion?
A: Service and repair of automatic transmission fluid filter should begin with hoisting the vehicle to a height while it remains in NEUTRAL gear. You should begin the service by draining the fluid through the drain plug before removing the pan along with its gasket then the fluid filter itself. Check for any remnants of the seal while inspecting the transmission fluid filter seal bore. Perform this inspection without damaging the seal bore and the seal. Always check that every trace of the old seal is removed before starting the installation of new fluid filter and seal components. The installation procedure requires bolt tightening in a crisscross pattern for the transmission fluid pan then putting the fluid pan gasket along with fluid pan back into position. Follow up the transmission drain plug installation by filling the system with the correctly specified transmission fluid to stop operational failures. Add 7.0 liters (7.5 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid into the transmission by using its fluid filler tube. When enabling the electrical battery connections you should begin the engine and shift the transmission range selector lever between all gear positions to verify proper operations. The transmission fluid should be adjusted by adding 0.24 liter (0.5 pint) increments to achieve the correct level which must fall inside the cross-hatched area of the fluid level indicator when the engine runs at normal operating temperature between 66 - 77°C (150 - 170°F) and no leakage should occur.
