- Q: How to service and repair the heater core on 2003 Ford Excursion?A: The first step for heater core service begins with draining the radiator followed by disconnection of heater water hoses from the core. Disengage the stops from the glove compartment door before you detach both panel/floor door vacuum control motor components by unhooking the vacuum line and removing the screws and rotating the motor away from the lever. Carefully handle the panel/floor door lever because it remains brittle. The electronic blend door actuator must be extracted together with its bracket following the detachment of electric connectors and screw removal and rotation of the complete unit. Use the needed tools to remove the heater core cover screws while elevating it vertically to protect the housing before removing it. Finally, remove the heater core. Follow the reverse of removal steps but align the temperature blend door by hand while keeping the actuator powered off to stop potential actuator damage. A gasket should be placed between the housing and cover during installation of the cover.
