2003 Ford F-150 Vehicle Speed Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor for the Turbine Shaft and Output Shaft on 2003 Ford F-150?
A: Place the vehicle in neutral mode on a hoist for Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor and Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor service and repair procedures. Begin service and repair of TSS and OSS sensors by first taking out dampener bolts together with the transmission insulator-to-crossmember support nuts. A high-lift transmission jack enables removal of crossmember bolts followed by removing the entire crossmember. Lower the back side of the transmission to reach the sensors before disconnecting their electrical connections. The TSS sensor requires careful maintenance since you should first remove the bolt then the sensor from its location to prevent contamination. You should also take out the OSS sensor by removing its bolt if required. Set aside the electrical connector of the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) during this operation. You should first apply lubricant to the O-ring before reinstalling the OSS provided it was detached along with its bolt and connector H02S positioning. You must lubricate the O-ring before installing the sensor with its bolt. First reconnect the electrical connector and position the crossmember against the transmission mount before installing one nut to maintain its placement and elevating the transmission to align the bolt holes. The completed procedure involves installing the crossmember bolts followed by tightening remaining nut and reinstalling the dampener with its attachment bolts. Use the transmission jack to drop the vehicle before finishing the operation.
