2003 Ford Ranger Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc on 2003 Ford Ranger?
A: The servicing process of brake rotors and discs requires starting by uninstalling the front brake caliper anchor plate. The brake disc needs removal in 4x4 vehicles. Starting with 4x2 vehicles requires hub grease cap removal followed by cotter pin removal then nut retainer extraction after which the spindle nut must be removed followed by front wheel outer bearing retainer washer detachment and outer front wheel bearing removal until the brake disc and hub can be removed. The necessary replacement of 4x2 brake rotor surfaces should be performed using a manufacturer-approved handheld brake lathe that demands wheel hub grease seal and front wheel bearing removal. When performing installation on a 4x4 vehicle the brake disc should be positioned at the wheel hub where subsequent cleaning requires Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F6AZ-2C410-AB or an equivalent product. When working on 4x2 vehicles professionals must completely clean, inspect and wet the front wheel bearings, brake disc alongside hub using Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F6AZ-2C410-AB. The front wheel bearings require Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or an equivalent material that satisfies Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B for lubrication before installing a new wheel hub grease seal. You must install the inner front wheel bearing along with the new wheel hub grease seal before placing the brake disc together with the hub assembly. Install the brake disc and hub and afterward add the outer front wheel bearing and front wheel outer bearing retainer washer together with the spindle nut. The spindle nut requires additional tightening when the brake disc also spins but needs to be re-tightened once more after brake disc rotation. First inspect and then install the nut retainer together with the cotter pin and hub grease cap on 4x2 vehicles. The last step involves putting in the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
