2004 Ford E-150 Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the primary battery cables on 2004 Ford E-150?
A: Beginning the service of primary battery cables requires disabling the vehicle electrical supply to avoid damage. The service begins with disconnecting the primary battery positive cable followed by removal of the hold-down wedge before extracting the primary battery. The next operation involves removing the four bolts that secure the battery tray as well as extracting the tray itself. The service requires removal of the primary battery negative cable ground nut as well as disconnection of the eyelet terminal. Take off the rubber cap from the starter motor relay B+ terminal and its eyelets together with the B+ terminal nut and enable terminal nut. First detach the three harness locators between battery tray mounts followed by removal of the starter motor/solenoid eyelet terminals with their B+ terminal nut and enable nut and ground nut. Detach the three plastic engine splash shield clips using hand tools which allow you to take out the shield. To perform this step remove the transmission cooler line/primary battery cable bracket nut then extract the primary battery cable assembly through the engine support crossmember below the car. Start by removing the battery tray harness locator sitting underneath the mounting points then pull the primary battery cable assembly from the engine area. Use the inverse order of removal to install the parts and replace the battery carefully to protect both vehicle systems and components. Abnormal symptoms of the powertrain control module (PCM) might present themselves until the adaptive learning process restarts following battery hookup and needs at least 16 km (10 miles) driving.
