2005 Ford E-150 Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the auxiliary battery cables on 2005 Ford E-150?
A: Before servicing auxiliary battery cables you must disable the vehicle electrical supply because it protects from damaging the system. Commence service by disconnecting the positive cable from the main battery followed by removing its hold-down wedge then extracting both batteries one by one starting with the primary battery then the auxiliary battery. Remove the battery tray first by taking out its four securing bolts. Remove the harness locators which exist behind the vacuum reservoir and in front and behind the right-hand frame rail and draw the harness through the reservoir toward the frame. The harness will pass through the front body mounting point after removing three front harness locators which are located along the right-hand frame rail. To extract the engine compartment harness it is necessary to first remove its nut and eyelet and then to pull the harness out from both the compartment and the engine. When installing the unit follow the battery reconnect procedures while conducting the removal steps in reverse order to protect component and vehicle systems from damage. When reconnecting the battery users should understand that the powertrain control module (PCM) could show unusual driving symptoms before it completes adaptive strategy learning. This process might need the driver to operate the vehicle for at least 16 km (10 miles) or more.
