2004 Ford Excursion Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2004 Ford Excursion?
A: Take the brake master cylinder out from the vehicle then clean its outer surface. The brake fluid drainage requires removing the filler cap followed by draining all fluid while showing caution due to the harmful characteristics of this fluid. Start by removing the brake pressure switch when needed before disassembling the primary piston assembly by pushing the piston out and taking off the snap ring. Discard both the primary piston assembly and its elements. To extract and dispose of the secondary piston assembly use compressed air through the front outlet port after plugging both the rear outlet port and (if required) the brake pressure switch port. The brake master cylinder requires replacement of the damaged bore but it can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol prior to inspection. Install the secondary piston assembly first then the primary piston assembly of a new assembly while applying brake fluid as lubrication to the seals. The installation process requires the proper positioning of the snap ring. The brake pressure switch can be returned if required together with the master cylinder installation into the vehicle.
