2004 Ford Excursion Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc for the F-250 and F-350 4x2 on 2004 Ford Excursion?
A: When repairing or servicing the brake rotor/disc of F-250 and F-350 4x2 vehicles start by uninstalling the disc brake caliper anchor plate. Starting with the disc brake rotor requires the removal of the hub grease cap together with the cotter pin, nut retainer, spindle nut, outer wheel bearing retainer washer, and outer wheel bearing leading to the disc brake hub and rotor. The factory advises customers to perform on-vehicle rotor machining if resurfacing becomes necessary. This process requires the removal of both wheel hub grease seals and inner wheel bearings. The procedure for installation starts with brake parts cleaner usage to clean and inspect the front wheel bearings together with the disc brake hub and rotor followed by application of long-life grease to the bearings. The installation procedure begins with the new wheel hub grease seal and then adds the inner wheel bearing followed by the second new wheel hub grease seal. First position the disc brake hub together with the rotor before you can install the outer wheel bearing and wheel outer bearing retainer washer and finally secure the spindle nut. During disc brake hub and rotor rotation the technician should torque the spindle nut before backing off the nut by two turns. With the spindle nut tightened while rotating back and forth perform a second nut tightening and then another rotation before making the final spindle nut tightening during rotation. After installing the hub grease cap add the cotter pin and nut retainer before setting back the disc brake caliper anchor plate.
