2004 Ford Expedition Shift Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shift Cable and Bracket on 2004 Ford Expedition?
A: Service and repair operations on the floor shift selector lever cable and bracket require initial lifting of the floor shift PRNDL bezel then disconnecting its wire harness connector. Start by lowering the handle bezel then detaching the PRNDL bezel screw while disconnecting the TCS wire harness. First remove the window regulator control panel then take out the screws before removing the console finish panel and ultimately detach the left side console access panel. First disconnect the shift cable from the transmission selector lever arm and then take out the transmission shift cable retaining clip from the floor shift mechanism at the console access panel. Insert the rubber grommet along with the transmission shift cable through the panel of the floor while keeping the vehicle in neutral on a hoisting platform. You must disconnect the transmission shift cable from the automatic transmission by first detaching it from the manual control lever while depressing the lock tabs to free it from the bracket. You need to detach the shift cable bracket from the transmission by removing all associated bolts and the bracket component. You should perform installation by reversing the removal steps while making required adjustments to the shift cable.
