2004 Ford Explorer Brake Pedal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake pedal assembly on 2004 Ford Explorer?
A: Start brake pedal assembly repairs by detaching the vehicle battery while positioning the adjustable pedal in its maximum extent. Properly remove brake components in sequence while linking the brake pedal to the booster rod naturally for protection of the speed control deactivator switch. Shift the brake master cylinder and booster assembly toward the front side to make space for brake pedal assembly stud removal. To start assembly of the pedal and bracket you must remove the wiper arms by carefully raising them upright then pulling out the retainer by hand. Proceed by removing the cowl grille with its 14 spring clips before moving on to disconnect the instrument panel support bolt, front console and the four instrument panel support bracket screws, door scuff plates, retainer and A-pillar lower trim panels, instrument panel side finish panels, caps and bolts, assist handles, windshield side garnish moulding and defroster grille and instrument panel support bolts. Hold down the steering wheel to stop its movement when disconnecting the steering column intermediate shaft since this prevents damaging the Clock Spring wiring. Users must separate the steering shafts using the bolt before pulling the instrument panel 25.4 mm (1 inch) away from the dash panel to remove the adjustable brake pedal assembly. Retain and save the screws that come from the adjustable pedal motor because you will need them for reinstalling the pedal system correctly after connecting the drive cable to the motor. Complete the installation with the speed control deactivator switch by connecting the brake pedal to the booster rod when it is not in use in order to protect the switch from harm.
