2004 Ford Ranger Flywheel Ring Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Flywheel Ring Gear on 2004 Ford Ranger?
A: Service and repair of flywheel ring gear starts by taking out the transmission before removing the clutch pressure plate and clutch disc. Next, take out the flywheel (6375). Operation of heating the flywheel ring gear (6384) should never exceed 278°C (500°F) while you use heat revealing crayons to track temperature changes and maintain uniform heat distribution by tapping the flywheel ring gear to stop it from getting stuck. Use a brass drift to extract the flywheel ring gear properly from the flywheel. When installing the flywheel ring gear on the flywheel, use the same temperature threshold of 278°C (500°F) while using continuous torch movement to eliminate hot spots. Always position the bevel of the flywheel ring gear towards the rear side of the flywheel before installing the flywheel and clutch pressure plate followed by clutch disc before reattaching the transmission.
