2004 Lincoln Town Car Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2004 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The procedure for repairing the brake shift interlock actuator starts with depleting back up power since it stops unintentional air bag deployment. The ground cable from the battery requires one minute of disconnection while any available auxiliary power supplies should also be disconnected. Start the task by unscrewing the lower steering column opening finish panel and moving the parking brake release handle aside then take out the panel screw to unlock the retaining clips. Start by disconnecting the five screws securing the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement while following it with the four screws from the instrument panel reinforcement brace. The selector lever indicator cable must be moved out of the way by loosening the screw and disconnecting its ends. Start by removing four nuts to lower the steering column before disconnection of the shift lock actuator (3F752) along with the transmission shift selector position insert (7A216) from the column by removing three bolts. The electrical connector must be disconnected so the shift lock actuator along with the transmission shift selector position insert can be removed. The installation process requires following the reverse order of removal actions.
