2004 Mercury Marauder Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shifter Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2004 Mercury Marauder?
A: The first step to service or repair the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator for the floor shifter is depletion of back up power to avoid air bag deployment followed by disconnecting the battery ground cable for one minute and additional power supplies if present. First disconnect the electrical connector from the instrument panel then take out the finish panel. To disconnect the TCS harness you must first remove the console finish panel followed by lifting its components before you push down the shift handle bezel. The two mounting screws for the shift handle should be removed before removing the shift handle. First remove the bulb through the shift indicator bezel lift action. Then disconnect both the shift interlock cable and its housing clip. First secure the parking brake release handle out of path so you can proceed with removing the screw from the lower steering column opening finish panel and gently pulling outward to free the retaining clips. Next proceed to unscrew the five screws fixing the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and the four screws maintaining the instrument panel reinforcement brace. The actuator solenoid requires an electrical connector disconnection and four column nuts removal to lower the steering column setup. The process begins by removing two screws from the actuator mounting cover after which the actuator solenoid can be lifted from the mounting bracket to extract the interlock actuator and cable. The installation process should be finished through reversing the steps used for removal.
