How to service the rear shock absorber and spring assembly on 2005 Ford Expedition?

Before accessing the rear shock absorber and spring assembly you need to turn off electrical power from the air suspension system through the air suspension switch located inside the LH rear quarter trim panel which should be switched to OFF position. Start the procedure by taking off both wheel and tire components and discarding their nuts. The operator should remove both the bolt as well as the flag nut into a discard container. The shock absorber and spring assembly must be taken out before positioning the upper mount and shock absorber with the spring for reference in reassembly. A proper spring compressor tool will enable you to reduce spring tension before the shock absorber becomes pressure-free. You should hold onto the shock rod to remove the nut along with washer before taking out the shock absorber and disposing of the nut. Start by first removing the upper mount and then removing also the dust shield and insulator. The installation ends with a reverse execution of the removal steps.
