2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: The service procedure for intake manifold begins with disconnection of the battery ground cable. The first step involves removing the bolts and shield after which you should detach the air cleaner outlet pipe while unhooking the wiring harness retainer and disconnecting the crankcase ventilation tube. Separate the accelerator and speed control cables from the throttle body and bracket before removing the air cleaner outlet pipe by loosening the clamps. The cables must be set aside in this position. The next step includes disconnecting the idle air control (IAC) valve along with the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connectors so the TP sensor wiring routing clip becomes loose. The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve requires disconnection of its vacuum hose as well as tube while also removing its vacuum regulator solenoid vacuum connections and electric lines. Late build vehicles must have their fuel vapor hose disconnected before working on the brake booster vacuum hose using a clamp removal tool. Twist the spark plug wire boots upward while carefully pulling them to safeguard the wires before placing them back onto the correct ignition coil terminal which you identified before detachment. First detach the right-hand spark plug wires from the coil and take off the pushpin of the routing clip before placing the wires to the side. Start by removing the pin-type retainers used for the accelerator cable routing clip and wiring harness and proceeding to disconnect the ignition coil bracket lower and upper bolts before placing the coil off to the side. The vacuum hoses need removal and you must unfasten the nut and separate the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector. Begin by separating the ground wires after placing the wiring harness to the side and by removing the knock sensor electrical connector retainer. First, remove all intake manifold bolts then lift the intake manifold, before eliminating heated positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose retainers and heated PCV fitting. The last step involves removing the intake manifold before reinstalling it by following the reverse steps of removal.
