2005 Ford Focus Heater Core Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the heater core on 2005 Ford Focus?
A: The service of the heater core begins with parking the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear on a hoist. A leak test must be performed before any heater core removal when leaks exist. Your first steps should involve clamping off and unconnecting the coolant hoses that are connected to the heater core. Start your service of the heater core by taking off the floor console and then continue with the two rear armrest bracket nuts when equipped followed by the armrest bracket nut and bracket if they exist. Remove first the rear footwell duct then take out the right-hand lower instrument panel insulator. First remove the floor duct and then lower the glove compartment before closing the compartment tight. First remove the four screws that hold the trim panel after which you can remove the nuts to set the accelerator pedal to the side. The next step includes disconnection of the steel retaining clip and then removing the left-hand and right-hand instrument panel brackets where the right-hand bracket is illustrated. Begin by removing the screw together with the clip from the left-hand floor duct and then detach all clips from the right-hand floor duct. After removing the heater core retaining screw the cover and then heater core must be taken out in order to extract the heater core completely. Reverse the removal process for installation while needing to wash and lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water if required. Fill the engine cooling system as the last step of this procedure.
