2006 Ford Focus Heater Core Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the heater core on 2006 Ford Focus?
A: A leak test must be performed first when you suspect leaking but before starting heater core service. Set the vehicle on a hoist in neutral position for draining cooling system fluid. The first step is to disconnect heater core coolant hoses and then unfasten the floor console. The screw and RH lower instrument panel insulator require removal together with lowering of the glove compartment to access the screw and floor duct. First close the glove compartment then remove the 4 screws from the trim panel before taking away the 3 nuts needed to move the accelerator pedal to its side. You should detach each steel retaining clip that connects the dash panel to both the heater core and evaporator core housing and then remove both LH and RH instrument panel brackets before final tightening to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft) torque specification. Proceed by uninstalling both LH and RH floor ducts by first removing their clip and screw. Before access the heater core you must disconnect its cover and remove 2 screws while unclipping the component and releasing 3 holder tabs. The heater core installation requires removing the retaining screw followed by the heater core unit itself. The installation requires performing the steps in reverse order but include cleaning and lubricating the coolant hoses with plain water before engine cooling system filling.
