- Q: How to service the alternator on 2005 Ford Mustang?A: The alternator service requires disconnection of the battery. The front end accessory drive belt tensioner receives counterclockwise rotation before the front end accessory drive belt is placed to the side. Remove the generator B+ protective boot then loosen its nut before setting both the terminal and nut aside but maintain a 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque when reattaching the B+ terminal during reinstallation. You should first remove the two nuts that secure the generator shield then place it to the side before restoring and tightening the nuts to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft). When reinstalling the generator tighten its two stud nuts to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). As the final step remove the bolt and generator from the engine bay before reinstallation where you should secure the bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). The reverse steps of removal should be used to end the process.
