2005 Ford Mustang Fuel Rail Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the fuel rail on 2005 Ford Mustang?
A: Servicing the fuel rail requires users to first eliminate system pressure then detach the battery ground cable. You should start by removing the wiring harness retainer from the valve cover stud bolt for the right-hand side and then set it away together with disconnecting the three fuel injector electrical connectors. The right side fuel rail requires removal of its two supply tube retaining bolts followed by torquing them to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) when reinstalling. Using fuel-resistant special material O-ring seals remains vital because regular O-ring seals will produce fuel system leaks and require replacement of the old O-ring seal for the fuel rail supply tubes. Sealant specialists must remove the right side fuel rail with their two bolts and tighten them to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) for installation and detach the three fuel injectors from the rail before discarding their O-ring seals. You should disconnect the vacuum hose and fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector from the left side before removing the wiring harness retainer that secures around the valve cover stud bolt. Unplug the three fuel injectors electrical connectors before you take out the two left-side fuel rail supply tube bolts. When replacing all parts reinstall the bolts at 6 Nm (53 lb-in). The repair requires new fuel-resistant O-ring seals while you must throw away the old fuel rail supply tube O-ring. Also secure the left side fuel rail using two bolts tightened to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) at installation. Take out the three fuel injectors from the fuel rail before discarding their O-ring seals. The installation ends with a reverse order to the removal steps and the application of clean engine oil to lubricate new O-ring seals before assembling them.
