2005 Ford Taurus A/C Accumulator Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service the A/C Accumulator in the HVAC System on 2005 Ford Taurus?
A: A technician should start suction accumulator servicing by retrieving refrigerant from the HVAC system. Vehicles equipped with a 3.0L (2V) engine need users to remove two roll restrictor bolts then remove position bolts to position the roll restrictor bracket aside. Following the hose disconnection from the degas bottle proceed by removing the bolt and nut to allow further positioning of the degas bottle. You need to detach the harness wire from the degas bottle first before beginning service on 3.0L (4V) engines. Start by taking out the nut and stud before disconnecting the spring lock coupling at the evaporator outlet along with discarding the O-ring seals. Follow up by cutting the vacuum lines and suction accumulator spring lock coupling and throwing away the O-ring seals for both removals. Start by disconnecting the electrical connector of the low charge protection switch and then remove the screw and suction accumulator from its position. The new accumulator installation requires following the removal process in reverse order while using fresh O-ring seals that must be lubricated with clean mineral oil and applying a proper amount of clean PAG oil to lubricate the refrigerant system. The A/C system requires evacuation before performing a leak test and subsequent charging procedure. Remove the R-134a refrerigerant system O-ring seals for lubrication from F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) Refrigerant Compressor Oil and choose F7AZ-19D589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent liquids matching Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B as the A/C compressor lubricant. Installation of a new suction accumulator is required when physical system contamination arises from A/C compressor failure along with suction accumulator damage.
