    A: Service and repair operations on the rear coil spring of a station wagon require workers to begin with hub cap removal and fender lip to hub center distance measurement when the vehicle stands at ground level. First detach the tire and wheel assembly from the rear area followed by removing its bolt and then the rear brake hose union bracket. A jack stand supports the suspension arm and bushing as you detach the stabilizer bar bracket by removing flags and bolts. The lower control arm requires proper support before you unscrew shock absorber mounting fasteners to protect linked components from damage; after disconnecting the shock absorber by removing bolt and nut discard them and toss away the washer and bushing. Rear wheel spindles should be separated from the tension strut by first discarding all nuts and washers and flag bolts. Use the jack stand to lower the lower control arm until you can remove the rear spring in combination with its rear spring center mounting insulator as one unit. Sequentially separate these combined components beginning with the rear spring center mounting insulator and ending with the rear spring insulator. First place the rear spring insulator correctly into position before installing the rear spring center mounting insulator similarly. Lower the rear suspension arm by using the jack stand while inserting the rear spring center mounting insulator through the underbody spring seat. First position the tension strut in the rear wheel spindle and then position the lower control arm with the jack stand while installing new flag bolts, four washers, and new nuts before leaving them untightened. After positioning the bushing and washer with their cupped sides pointed away from the bushing you must assemble new nuts before adding a shock absorber along with the new bolt. Use tools to adjust the suspension height until the hub center matches the distance found earlier and secure the wheel nuts tightly. The bracket assembly containing the retainer and nut should be positioned first before installing new bolts with flag nuts. First lower the vehicle partially then put in the rear brake hose union bracket and bolt afterward install the wheel with tire before running a wheel alignment check as needed.
