2005 Ford Thunderbird Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on 2005 Ford Thunderbird?
A: Installing a vehicle on a hoist with the transmission in NEUTRAL position stands as the first step for radiator servicing and repairs. You should drain your cooling system before removing the cooling fan motor and shroud then the upper radiator sight shield. The radiator service requires separating upper and lower radiator hoses from the radiator while placing them to the side. Release the six bolts and dismantled two upper radiator support brackets by torquing them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Lower the A/C condenser to gain access to A/C condenser-to-radiator bolts before removing two A/C condenser retaining bolts which you should set aside while tightening bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) during reinstallation. The installation procedure requires removal of the two A/C condenser upper bracket bolts along with the two upper brackets followed by tightness setting to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before completion. The radiator needs forward tilting for accessing the combination cooler bolts. Moving the combination cooler up and forward will free it from radiator retention clips and allow for bolt removal while tightened to 10 Nm during reinstallation. Detach the three bolts and set the shield in the downward direction before releasing the clips to make radiator shield and radiator removal possible. Installation of the new radiator starts by doing the removal steps in reverse until the combination cooler fits correctly into the radiator retaining clips before you complete the cooling system fill and bleed process.
