2005 Lincoln Aviator Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the shift cable on 2005 Lincoln Aviator?
A: Service and repair procedures for the shift cable begin with positioning the transmission range selector lever to the 1st position at the vehicle's rear before moving it forward 3 detents to reach the (D) position. Hang the vehicle on a hoist then remove the shift cable from its connection with the manual lever. Continue rotating the manual lever until stopped and reverse the rotation 3 detents to reach the (D) position. The shift cable tab requires prying up to open the lock but the cable should move smoothly in both directions. Secure the shift cable onto the manual lever following manual control lever positioning then apply downward force to the shift cable adjustment lock until it locks into place. The last check evaluates the engine startup in PARK and NEUTRAL positions together with reverse lamp operation in the REVERSE mode. Sensor adjustment checks the transmission range TR for proper function.
