- Q: How to Service and Repair the Vapor Canister on 2005 Lincoln LS?A: Start the servicing and repairing process for the evaporative emission control canister on a hoisted vehicle in NEUTRAL position. The battery ground cable should be disconnected to prevent electrical sparks which create a risk of igniting fuel vapors. Start the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister service by first removing the rear subframe while disconnecting both electrical connectors and vapor tube from this component. Proceed to take away the four bolts which fasten the EVAP canister and bracket assembly before removing the assembly altogether. Remove the three fuel vapor tubes from the EVAP canisters before checking and replacing any O-ring seals when needed. Freeing up the EVAP canisters requires removal of one rivet. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate new O-ring seals before following the installation steps in reverse direction while tightening bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The system requires a leak test followed by execution of the evaporative emission repair verification drive cycle for proper functionality confirmation.
