2005 Mercury Grand Marquis Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shifter Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: Prior to servicing or repairing the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator for Floor Shifter operators must establish safety by depleting back up power supply to avoid air bag deployment accidents followed by disconnection of the battery ground cable for one minute and also the removal of any secondary batteries and power supplies. Start the procedure by removing the instrument panel finish panel and then disconnect the electrical connector. First remove the console finish panel by lifting it before you detach the TCS harness with the help of push forces on the shift handle bezel. You should begin by unscrewing the two fasteners holding the shift handle before removing the handle from the place. The shift indicator bezel needs to be lifted so you can remove the bulb while you release the shift interlock cable housing clip to disconnect this cable. Start by removing the screw from the finish panel on the bottom steering column opening and relocating the parking brake handle out of reach until you pull on the panel using the second screw to disconnect its retaining clips. The next step involves uninstalling five screws that are attaching both the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement and instrument panel reinforcement brace. Lower the steering column first by unfastening four nuts and severing the electrical connector to shift lock actuator solenoid. You need to remove two screws from the actuator mounting cover before pulling up the actuator solenoid from its mounting bracket to take out both the interlock actuator and cable. The installation process ends with reversing the initial removal procedures.
