2005 Mercury Mariner Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2005 Mercury Mariner?
A: The coil spring service and repair starts with the wheel in an unlocked position and the NEUTRAL gear selection and hoist support. Start by removing the brake jounce hose clip then gently pull the brake jounce hose down to break its connection from the bracket before placing it aside. The ABS wheel speed sensor harness requires removal of its bolt. A hex holding tool protects the ball stud against turning during the removal process for the upper stabilizer bar link nut. Unscrew the two strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts before documenting the positions of the four strut upper bushing plate nuts prior to their removal. When working with the axle shaft keep it from moving outboard since any over-extension of the tripod CV joint may cause internal part separation which results in axle shaft breakdown. Secure the new strut and spring component by setting its upper mounting plate into the inner fender until all four strut upper bushing plate nuts reach their reference points before tightening them to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Proceed by screwing in the two strut-to-knuckle bolts and tension them to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). The next step involves tightening the upper stabilizer bar link nut to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.) and then fastening the ABS wheel speed sensor harness bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Position the brake jounce hose onto its bracket then apply the brake jounce hose clip before checking the front end alignment with possible need for adjustments.
