Touch the safety canopy module when handling it by pointing its safety canopy and tear seam toward different directions from your body. A deployed safety canopy requires replacement of both the headliner and upper trim panels from all A- and B- and C-pillars together with any harmed parts and hardware. Headliners intended for safety canopy modules should be used because they display the "air bag" graphic at the B-pillar trim panel junctions. A thorough examination of the roof line must be conducted before installation to check for damage with subsequent repairs of affected sheet metal and replacement of damaged fasteners while foreign objects need removal. Check the safety canopy for damage; a separated cover requires installation of a new safety canopy module instead of any repair attempts. Deployments can be interfered with when fasteners or tie straps are used to wrap around either interior trim panels or safety canopy modules due to their ability to limit proper deployment. The electrical connector at the safety canopy module should be untouched and memory saver devices must never be utilized. New torque-prevailing type J-nuts (W520822-S438, 9 per side) must be used for an effective installation of the safety canopy module. The driver should disable system power and remove the headliner before detaching any front moonroof drain hose routing clips (when applicable). The driver should record the location of two safety canopy module hardware components for reinstallation. Completely remove the safety canopy module bolts and subsequently separate it from the system while directing it forward across the rear window defroster wires. Use replacement J-nuts for installation following procedure steps that include bolting the A-pillar trim bracket to 7 Nm (62 lb-in torque setting) and inspecting both roof line and safety canopy formation and attaching the safety canopy module properly then routing it through the rear window defroster wiring harness. Connect the electrical connector and secure the rear bracket bolts with 7 Nm (62 lb-in.) torque along with the rear bracket pin type retainer and guide bolts installation. The installation requires middle bolts to be installed while ensuring the A-pillar trim bracket hook properly seats, then tightening bracket bolts at 9 Nm (80 lb-in). To finish the installation you should first install the front tether bracket bolt of the safety canopy module followed by attaching moonroof drain hose routing clips if needed and then re-installing the headliner and powering up the system.
