The driver air bag module requires safety glasses for your protection when servicing and you must handle all live air bag modules so their air bag and trim cover faces away from your body. Live air bag modules require the face-down orientation to remain avoided and hand contact must be cleared with soap water since they harbor sodium hydroxide residue. Air bag modules always require new replacement if they have damaged or discolored trim covers rather than requiring repainting. Installation of any kind of memory saver device must be avoided. When the ignition switch is ON the air bag warning lamp will illuminate while the RCM fuse is removed but this does not indicate any SRS fault exists. The SRS must be operational with no faults discovered while performing repairs to return a vehicle to customers. Only new components should be used to fix the SRS system. Initialization of driver air bag module removal begins by powering down the system and eliminating the
Steering Wheel cover before using proper tools to activate the horn while freeing the first wire clip side. Add a proper tool beneath the wire clip until it crosses the post then move forward for the other end. The process of releasing the module involves malfunctioning the horn again and moving the wire clip ends toward one another until they intersect. Specifically tag the squib numbers on all electrical connectors before disconnecting them and proceed to detach both the horn and accessories connectors to extract the module. The wire clip needs to be oriented properly on the six tabs of the module before carrying out the installation process. Adjust the wire clip by resetting both ends while maintaining its seating position then check that hook ends are uniformly situated from the center post. Install horn and accessory electrical connectors by matching the Clock Spring connectors correctly to prevent connectors from switching order. The installer should keep the driver air bag module wires away from the mounting hooks to avoid wire damage. Fasten the wire clip by listening for audible clicks from all four retaining points before you mount the module to the steering wheel but ensure the horn switch cover remains accessible. Complete the installation by bolting down the steering wheel access cover and activate the vehicle power.
