2005 Mercury Mountaineer Throttle Position Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Throttle Position Sensor on 2005 Mercury Mountaineer?
A: The first step for servicing the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor requires users to disconnect the battery ground cable followed by taking off the air cleaner outlet pipe. The procedure requires detachment of the TP sensor electrical connector. Before using a suitable high-speed driver to remove TP sensor screws the user must loosen them 1-2 full turns using a hand tool to prevent screw damage. The service requires removal of the two screws and TP sensor and discarding both components. The installation of new TP sensor and new screws is mandatory because replacing old parts is prohibited. Install the new TP sensor component by positioning its radial locator tab exactly on the radial locator opening of the throttle body. Position the new TP sensor before installing the two new screws which should be tightened to 3 Nm (27 lb-in). Reestablish the battery ground connection as your final step after installing the TP sensor electrical connection and reinstalling both the air cleaner outlet pipe.
