2006 Ford Explorer Power Steering Cooler Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Power Steering Cooler on 2006 Ford Explorer?
A: A hoist system in neutral position should support the vehicle for power steering cooler service. To detach the fluid reservoir hose start by releasing its clamp followed by removing the cooler hose brackets and the bolt from the cooler hose bracket. When reinstalling this bolt tighten it to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). This procedure requires removal of the steering line clamp plate nut before installation where torque should be set to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The O-ring seal should be thrown away when you rotate the steering line clamp plate to separate the cooler return line from the steering gear. New O-ring seals should always be used when disconnecting the steering lines because the power steering cooler needs to be removed. The completion of installation requires both the reinstallation of the cooler along with power steering system filling.
