2006 Ford Explorer Throttle Position Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Throttle Position Sensor on 2006 Ford Explorer?
A: A proper service of the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable and the electrical connector of the TP sensor. When unscrewing the TP sensor screws it is essential to start by loosening them one or two full turns with a hand tool before proceeding with a suitable high-speed driver tool for full removal. The TP sensor receives disposal together with its two screws. A new TP sensor together with fresh screws must be used for installation because reuse of old parts is prohibited. The installation requires you to position the radial locator tab found on the sensor to match the radial locator hole present on the throttle body. Attach the newly positioned TP sensor with the two new screws while tightening them to 3 Nm (27 lb-in). Connection of the TP sensor electrical connector and the battery ground cable completes the installation process.
